Sri Lanka is an island realm of misty highlands, emerald tea plantations, dense wildlife sanctuaries, and ancient UNESCO World Heritage sites, making it ideal for cycle touring. Cycling Sri Lanka: Beach & Jungle 12 Days gives us the multi-sensory journey through the island’s diverse landscapes, vibrant culture, and deep historical roots, featuring seven full days on two wheels across balanced, introductory-to-moderate terrain.

Your cycling expedition begins along the palm-fringed western and southern coasts, pedaling past laid-back fishing villages, iconic stilt fishermen, and the 400-year-old colonial ramparts of the historic Galle Dutch Fort. Leaving the ocean breeze behind, the route tracks inland across dirt trails and paved backroads into the dry-zone jungles. Here, you will swap your bicycle for a 4×4 open-top jeep safari through Udawalawe National Park to observe wild elephant herds, crocodiles, and exotic birdlife in their natural habitat, followed by a visit to the nearby Elephant Transit Home.

As the path tilts upward into the cool hill country, you will navigate winding roads surrounded by mountain peaks and tea-covered slopes toward Ella and Nuwara Eliya. Discover the secrets of Ceylon tea with a guided tasting at a local estate before descending into Kandy, Sri Lanka’s sacred cultural heartland. In Kandy, explore the revered Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, wander through the historic Peradeniya Royal Botanical Gardens, and witness traditional Kandyan drummers and fire-walkers.

The final leg ventures deep into the island’s famous Cultural Triangle. Route highlights include Matale’s fragrant spice gardens, the dramatic 5th-century Sigiriya Rock Fortress with its ancient ceiling frescoes, the Dambulla Cave Temples, and the 11th-century medieval ruins of Polonnaruwa, capped off by an authentic home-cooked lunch hosted by a local family in the middle of lush rice fields.

Designed for maximum comfort and peace of mind, the trip is fully supported by an expert local cycling guide, a dedicated bike mechanic, and a support vehicle carrying luggage and refreshments. Resting each night in comfortable hotel accommodations, you will experience the natural beauty and warm hospitality of Sri Lanka in an unforgettable way
